Used Metal Lathe

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Let’s start off by saying that a metal lathe can cut other types of materials but other types of lathes may not be able to cut metal.

I have seen a used metal lathe set up to cut wood, plastic and large pieces of corian to be used as urns. The cutting of wood with a metal lathe seems a little over the top to me since metal lathes are so much more expensive than standard wood lathes.

If your situation requires you to cut lots of different types and graded of metal then you probably will want to buy one with variable speed. Just don’t be mislead by the term variable speed. Some smaller used metal lathes say they are variable speed but in order to change the speed you have to move the drive belt between two pulleys to change the speed. And then the speed is really not variable, it is just a different speed.  A continuously variable speed metal lathe is a much better choice and you won’t have to mess around with changing belt positions. Electronically controlled speeds are great and infinitely variable when it comes to speed adjustments.

Some smaller lathes have headstocks that are not substantial enough to withstand a lot of pressure during the cutting process. These lathes are limited to very small sizes of metal to cut with not a lot of weight either.

If you want to cut screw threads then you will need a metal lathe with a compound tool rest. This will allow you to adjust the feed of the cutter via a feedscrew to allow you to cut various types of machine threads. You can find tool holders that are designed to cut certain thread configurations and if that is important to you, you should try to find a used metal lathe that includes them because they can be quite expensive to purchase separately. Plus, if the lathe you are looking at is fairly old, the parts and accessories may not even be available any longer. That situation can turn that great deal you got on that metal lathe into a really bad decision.

Be sure the lathe you buy can handle size, capacity and type of job you need to get done.

Air Purifiers: Deciding on the Best Type

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Air pollutants are close at hand, they are outside as well as indoors our homes. And because of this, a lot of people work on deciding on the precise air purifiers to freshen up their homes from indoor pollutants.

Employing air cleaners and air purifiers both work on refreshing the air and maintains the freshness in any situation. Air purifiers can supply us with clean breathable air, but deciding on the right type of these gadgets can be quite daunting especially if you are unaware of what look for. You have to bear in mind that one of the most common differences that air purifiers have is the amount of space that they can successfully clear up. By checking this precise characteristic of air filters you will be able to save more on operating expenses.

As you search for your air purifier, you will see that most covers only a certain space or room to freshen up. However there are also those that though best for only one room, it can cover a big space of room. There are also a lot of exclusion when you look around for the correct product for you. You have to consider if buying that definite type of air purifier will be worth the investment. Check out my air purifiers for sale pages and uv air filters to get more.

Keep in mind that these air purifiers only work on limited spaces and it would be more problem if anyone in your household is smoking. Another aspect you should take note of is if you have any pets tolerated inside your homes. Smoking and having pets around have an effect the quality of air you have inside your home and usual sized air purifiers will not work well for you.
