Auditioning Hints for Pursuing an Acting Career

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Ever heard the line that ‘practice makes perfect’? Well the same applies when you go for an audition with the hope that you will be able to find work on television, the movies or the theater. This article will include a few helpful hints that you should bear in mind.

An audition can generally last between 2 to 3 hours and you will have to signup beforehand. Also, since it is on first come first serve basis, you will need to make sure that you present yourself 15 minutes before the audition actually begins. This will give you some additional time to relax and practice your monologue or act one more time before they call you on stage.

When waiting for you turn, you must pay attention to the person who signed up before you because after him or her, you will be the one who will be going up next. If you need to wait for a long time, bring a book along with you and a bottle of water to keep yourself well hydrated.

As you will only be a guest here, you must make sure to be as nice as possible to everyone because you will never know who you might stumble upon, and remember that this idea holds also to those individuals who will be vying for the same spot.

One of the positive elements about an audition is that unlike a job interview, you won’t need to go in there in your most formal business attire. You will be able and encouraged to wear something neat and comfortable. Never make the mistake of wearing an uncomfortable costume or something too formal.

You should also be careful when using any kind of perfume or cologne as it could sometimes be too overpowering.

If you have never participated in an audition for this particular company before, you can do some research so that you know exactly what kind of work and entertainment they specialize in. This will help you to select the right monologue to suit the audition. However, if no information is provided, just have your best ready and try to keep the length to below one minute. Should you ever find yourself able to impress the director and they ask to see more, try to have a few others monologues prepared as well.

At times, your audition will require from you to sing rather than act in order to get the part. If this ever occurs, you should try to bring along with you a clean and clearly marked sheet of music. Tell the musician about what part of the song to play and ensure that the tune is kept to a maximum of at least 16 bars.

Your act set aside, you will need to prepare your resume and a headshot. Try to bring along at least 5 copies each because besides providing a copy to the casting director, talents and scouts might probably also very much ask to get in touch with you in the future.

Your resume will require your updated contact details in order to more easily enable contact you for a possible call back. Both of these should be able to fit into a folder as those that don’t usually get quickly thrown out. Don’t also forget to clearly write your name on the headshot even if a copy of your resume is already stapled on the back.

When it’s your turn to perform, start by taking a deep breath and smiling. Make sure that you look at the audition space and if there are some objects there that you won’t require, you can ask for them to be temporarily moved away. Following your audition, just walk out of the room with the hope that what you did was sufficiently effective for a call back.

An audition is not always easy to grasp and it is usually the first step that everyone will need to take if they wish to pursue an acting career. So, start off by applying to a few auditions and slowly learn from experience, in the event that if you don’t make it, you will know that you will do better next time.

Self Storage Tips

Friday, January 8th, 2010

If you need self-storage, there are a few things you should consider before choosing your storage unit and before packing and moving your belongings.

The first thing you will have to do is hire a unit. The more local the better! Do a geographical search on the internet for terms such as self storage Epping or self storage Harlow to find your local supplier. Remember to work out how much storage space you think you will need and then order something a little larger. It may help if you list the items you need to store, grouping them according to how you will organise them in the storage unit (i.e. items that will need to be accessed frequently need to be at the front and heavy items need to be at the bottom). Fragile items should always be at the top! Make sure you research whether or not the company is reputable and that do your homework on prices as these can vary quite widely.

Having organised a unit, you will need to sort out packing materials and boxes. Boxes can be found for free at supermarkets but will be in lots of different sizes and conditions. If you are short of money this may be your only choice, but if you want to make life easier for yourself it will definitely be best to buy your boxes. This is because the boxes are in standard sizes, therefore easier to stack. The durability and cleanliness will also be guaranteed. A bonus of buying your boxes is that they can all be sourced and collected at once. Specialised boxes can be bought for awkward items such as mirrors. Remember that you will need to be able to lift your boxes so select the sizes and what you intend to put in them carefully. When you are finished with your boxes, they will easily pack flat and can be used again and again.

Packing materials are as important as the boxes. Foam is great as it is light and cushioning. Plain paper, paper towels, foam sheets and bubble wrap will all protect your items too. Newspaper is not a great choice as the ink can transfer and stain.

Ensure you buy more tape than you think you will need and then fill your boxes. Make sure the box isn’t too packed or the contents will get crushed. Too little packing will mean that the contents slide around and get damaged. Cut some cardboard dividers to stop items moving around too much. Reinforce the boxes with tape at either end.

Specially designed covers can be bought for items such as sofas and mattresses. These are OK for moving the items to and from the storage unit but shouldn’t be used long-term if they are plastic. Items sealed in plastic will get mould and mildew eventually growing on them because the plastic isn’t breathable and seals in moisture. Fabrics such as canvas are better for long-term storage.

Space-saving vacuum bags are useful for keeping moisture out. They are easily available and simple to pack. Once the items are in the bag, the air is removed by attaching a vacuum cleaner nozzle that sucks it all out. This reduces the size of the bag and keeps the contents fresh.

Items of value will need to be insured and secured properly. Padlocks and combination locks can help keep your property secure but check that your storage unit has keypad entry systems, security cameras, perimeter fencing and good lighting. It needs to be a secure store.

Make multiple backups of your stored documents and keep them in a different location. Store digital documentation on password-protected media.

When storing photographs, ensure you use archival quality paper between each one. This will prevent the photos sticking. Archival quality paper doesn’t contain acid (which will damage your prints). Store loose photos tightly together to prevent them warping. Climate control is important for the preservation of photos. Extremes of temperature can damage prints so check that your unit is adequately temperature controlled.

Label boxes clearly using waterproof markers and ensure that any boxes containing fragile items are marked as fragile on all sides. Boxes should be off the floor in the storage unit so you will need to get hold of pallets, cardboard or plastic. Don’t stack too high as you need to be able to access them safely and easily.

Don’t forget that your self-storage facility manager can be a great resource and can be called on to help solve your packing and moving problems.

What to Look for To locate the Best Website Host

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Making a web presence can be a rather involved process. There are many points to consider when searching for the best website host. Understanding this will be relevant prior to making a financial commitment. The incorrect host may be expensive. Why would any website owner want to spend a great deal of time for next to nothing? Many people have discovered this the hard way. This is why while searching for a website host it pays off to solicit any doubts which you may have. What are a few of the answers and questions for asking possible website hosts? Following are some essential illustrations.

How much bandwidth is permitted? When the sky is the limit for bandwidth, there can be a dilemma. You will find limits. If these limits are exceeded the company may begin billing the website owner. The best website host will state what the true limits are and work with the site owner to allow for adjustment and possible extension if required. What are likely hits for a website? Manage a website host to study potential. A good website host can help figure this out.

How often and what time of day will the website be available? A website is like a store which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you have downtime manifesting often, this is a problem. The best website host can give money back to allow for time when a website is down. This is good business practice, thinking about the amount of money compromised in the course of downtime. In fact, not being able to access a website will trigger customers to search somewhere else. If downtime becomes too regular, the website will turn out to be unproductive. Checking the evaluations and complaints on a possible website host may help with making an informed choice about which one to hire.

When help is necessary is there going to be someone offered? Even the most experienced website owners will run into a roadblock. When technical support is necessary, it can be usually desired instantly. Many web builders operate irregular hours and want to know they can find someone despite the time. Inquiring about what hours help is live, vs. sending an email and lingering until another shift, is not optional. The best website host will offer technical support at all times, 24/7. Maintaining a list of these and other queries will help potential website owners to enjoy the benefit choices concerning the most favorable website host.
